Simple Mini Inverter using IC 4047
A mini inverter is a useful electronic circuit that converts DC (Direct Current) into AC (Alternating Current), making it ideal for small-scale power backup applications. The IC 4047 is a versatile monostable/astable multivibrator IC, commonly used in inverter circuits due to its ability to generate stable square wave pulses. This project focuses on building a simple mini inverter using the IC 4047, a few transistors, and a transformer to power small AC appliances.
Components Required:
- IC 4047 – Used to generate square wave pulses.
- Transistors (TIP122, TIP127, or MOSFETs) – For switching the transformer.
- 12V Battery – Power source for the inverter.
- Step-up Transformer (12V-230V, 1A-5A) – Converts low-voltage DC into high-voltage AC.
- Resistors and Capacitors – For circuit stability.
- Diodes and LED – For indication and protection.
Working Principle:
- IC 4047 operates in astable mode, generating a stable 50Hz (or 60Hz) square wave output.
- The output from the IC drives power transistors or MOSFETs, which act as switches to alternate the DC supply through the transformer.
- The transformer steps up the 12V DC signal into 230V AC, which can be used to run small AC appliances like LED bulbs, chargers, or small fans.
Applications:
- Emergency power backup for small devices.
- Low-power household applications.
- Educational projects for learning about inverters.
Advantages:
- Simple and cost-effective circuit.
- Low power consumption.
- Easy to assemble and modify for higher wattage.
