Raspberry Pi Camera Module 2 NoIR
The Raspberry Pi Camera Module 2 NoIR is a high-quality, lightweight camera designed specifically for the Raspberry Pi series of single-board computers. “NoIR” stands for “No Infrared Filter,” meaning this camera can capture infrared light as well as visible light, making it ideal for low-light photography, night vision projects, plant growth monitoring, and other scientific experiments.
This camera module features an 8-megapixel Sony IMX219 sensor, offering sharp images, vibrant colors (in daylight), and the ability to see beyond the visible spectrum under infrared lighting. It supports high-definition video capture at resolutions up to 1080p30, 720p60, and 640×480p90, making it suitable for both photography and video recording projects.
The module connects easily to the Raspberry Pi via a 15-pin MIPI Camera Serial Interface (CSI) connector, providing a fast and direct connection to the GPU for low-latency image processing. It’s compact and lightweight, perfect for integration into portable systems, drones, security cameras, wildlife photography setups, and home automation projects.
Without an infrared filter, the Camera Module 2 NoIR is highly sensitive to infrared illumination, which is particularly useful for projects requiring vision in total darkness when paired with IR LEDs.
Whether you’re building a wildlife monitoring system, a home security camera, or a robot with vision capabilities, the Raspberry Pi Camera Module 2 NoIR is a flexible and powerful tool. It is compatible with most Raspberry Pi models including Pi 3, Pi 4, and Pi Zero (with an adapter cable).
Note: The NoIR camera is not ideal for normal color photography in bright light, as the absence of an IR filter can cause color distortion.
